Rankings also play a very important role, and in the current era of online reviews for practically everything we buy, it makes sense that degree-seeking individuals seek out what others are saying. If there is one faculty member who epitomizes the persona of the teaching professor, it is Karen Cooley. She joined the faculty in 1997, and although she had prior employment experience in auditing in Dallas and as a tax manager here in the Panhandle, she has never looked back. Teaching, as it turned out, was her strong suit and passion. Read more

When it comes to stage and screen performers, a triple threat is someone who can act, sing, and dance. They are increasingly rare today. Academia has its rare triple threat too: the professor who excels in teaching, research, and professional service. It’s hard to be good in all three, because doing well in one or two often means compromising on the other. Read more

It is quite the norm for our graduate students to be employed somewhere in corporate America, and the degree they are pursuing is to help them achieve promotions. A small percentage of our degree candidates plow straight through after earning their undergraduate degrees. Read more

There is much to be said for plowing through the hard stuff when you’re young and have the energy. While many of our graduate students pursue their advanced degrees after they have gained some work experience, some just go right through marathon-style. Like Corey Orthengren, the Amarillo native who earned his BBA in Accounting in May 2019, then dove into the MPA program and graduated with that degree in December 2020. Read more

The Engler College of Business at West Texas A&M University proudly announces a significant milestone in its history. Thanks to a generous $3 million donation from Amarillo National Bank, the unit housing the academic disciplines of Accounting, Economics, and Finance (AEF) has been officially renamed the Amarillo National Bank School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance. This generous gift, the largest in the bank’s history, solidifies the longstanding partnership between Amarillo National Bank and the College of Business. The announcement, made on February 14, and following approval by the Board of Regents on February 9, signifies the bank’s commitment to nurturing talent and investing in the business community’s future.
