Alumni Business Spotlight – The GoldenLight Cafe and The Golden Waffle Company

Like many students, Angela Corpening worked her way through college as a waitress. In June 2000 she began working at the GoldenLight Cafe and in December 2006 she graduated from West Texas A&M University with a B.B.A. in Finance.

I thought I was going to be a stock broker, but one thing led to another, and I ended up buying the GoldenLight.  I love being involved in all aspects of the restaurant, like taking care of the business side and waitressing – I even love to cook!

The GoldenLight Cafe, located on 6th Street in Amarillo, is not only a local favorite, but a Route 66 tourist destination that has been open in the same location since 1946. After graduating, Angela took a leap of faith and became the 5th owner of this business.

Tanveer Singh, Joe Dan Wilson, and Angela Corpening in Summer 2006 after presenting to the Investment Series. These three students acted as student managers for the Student-Managed Investment Fund at WT.

Between running a restaurant and raising a family, Angela decided to return to school and earned her M.B.A. from WT in 2015.

Last month, Angela expanded her horizons and opened a second restaurant in Amarillo, The Golden Waffle Company. If this new breakfast and brunch restaurant, located at Hillside and Bell, is anything like the GoldenLight Cafe, we look forward to another long-standing restaurant in the Amarillo area!
