Faculty Spotlight – Dr. Sean Humpherys

Dr. Sean Humpherys, Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems and the Pickens Professor of Business, joined the Engler College of Business in 2011. He received B.S. and M.I.S. degrees from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in Information Systems Management from the University of Arizona. Last spring he won the 2020 Teaching Excellence Award in the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business as well as the 2020 Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award at WT.

Dr. Humpherys with his CIDM 5/4331 Production Operations Management class. During the Fall 2019 semester, students in this course worked toward earning their Yellow Belt in Lean Six Sigma and were presented their certificates the last day of class.

Dr. Humpherys exudes a student-centered and learner-oriented enthusiasm for learning and teaching that is palpable and contagious. Dr. Humpherys notably works to overcome barriers to learning, particularly with technical content. Often, barriers to embracing technical content may be self-imposed and perceptual; a patient, caring, and coaching approach are key success ingredients that Dr. Humpherys calls upon as he helps students realize their potential. Dr. Humpherys exemplifies this ethos. We sat down to speak with Dr. Humpherys regarding his passion and success in educating and inspiring our students.
