Student Organization Spotlight – Women in Business

In August 2021, the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business founded WTAMU Women in Business (WIB), a student organization that provides a supportive and encouraging environment for women who are considering a career in business. The organization aims to connect students, faculty, alumni, and professionals to promote personal development, professional opportunities, and empowering relationships. WIB is an inclusive student organization and all individuals who seek to support women in the workplace are welcome to join.

During the Fall 2021 semester, WIB hosted meetings dedicated to addressing specific student-identified needs such as learning to network, building academic success through efficient study habits, and preparing resumes for members that are entering the workforce. Additionally, local business owners Rosario Ortega and Angela Corpening, from the Golden Waffle Company, joined the group for a question and answer session which focused on topics such as learning from past successes, overcoming challenges, and owning a local business. In the Spring 2022 semester, the student organization will continue hosting meetings that aim to encourage and prepare students to achieve their academic and professional goals.

WIB is a student-centered organization dedicated to promoting professional development, personal growth, meaningful relationships, and guidance for WTAMU students as they progress through their degrees and enter the business environment. Through the meetings and events, the members also strive to build a sense of community and support for one another.

“I decided to join WIB because I wanted to be a part of a group of women who encourage one another in this crazy business world. We all are going through similar journeys and it’s amazing to be surrounded by a great support system.”
